We are a collective of people who believe that education is the cornerstone of a successful society.

We are a 100% non-profit organization that runs solely on the valuable time of volunteers and donations from members of the community.

We match book requests prisoners send us in the mail to books that have been donated to us. We then use donated materials and stamps to pack and send those books to prisoners and prison libraries across the U.S.

  • Donate Stamps (our biggest cost)
  • Volunteer time-come to one of our packing sessions
  • Spread the word: as Emma Goldman once said: "No real social change has ever been brought about without a Revolution… Revolution is thought carried into action."

Why we do it:

How to Help:

Who We Are:

We believe that education is a fundamental human right. This right should be accorded to any human being without discrimination or exclusion. Education not only helps the individual, but society as a whole.  Beehive Books Behind Bars has been created in an effort to aide prisoners readily have the disposition of books, regardless of their social economic status. Providing necessary tools, free of charge, to these human beings we call “inmates”- we opportune them to spend their time incarcerated not only to improve themselves on an individual level, but in doing so, allow them the chance to come back into society with the instruments necessary to succeed.

We have heard many times- these books and resources should go to a more “deserving” people.

That “Prisoners are in prison to be punished- not read.”

Confirmed by numerous studies: "The link between academic failure and delinquency, violence , and crime is welded to reading failure."- The Department of Justice

The USA ranks #1 in incarceration, whilst only #20 in literacy and graduation.
